There's no denying the fact that Cricinfo
and Wisden have single handedly changed
how cricket fans around the world view the latest
cricket scores, find out who's in and who's not and
what the weather forecast is for a particular match
via the web. Cricinfo is the world's largest cricket
site and one of the largest sports sites around, judged
not only by the size of the website or visitors received
since 1993 but in the pure quality of service it provides.
Not
content to sit back and leave everything to the website,
both Wisden and Cricinfo have teamed up to deliver
a superb companion to International cricket in 2007.
The Cricinfo Guide to International Cricket focuses
exclusively on Test matches, 50 over one-day internationals
and Twenty20. These games captivate a television audience
of tens of millions throughout the year, throughout
the world. Published in November to coincide with
the beginning of international cricket’s busiest
period.
There are 200 player profiles across
the board, correct as of September 11th 2006, each
one receiving a full page of facts, figures and interesting
details surrounding the player's career in Test matches
and one day internationals. The guide not only gives
the armchair fan up to date statistics, it will also
prove invaluable if you are at a live match and unsure
as to who you are watching fielding deep on the boundary
ropes. It saves you asking the person next to you
and risk not knowing the difference between your Dravid's
and Tendulkar's and Langer's and Martyn's.
Another unique service cricinfo provides
is Statsguru and cricinfo's statistics editor, S. Rajesh, explains what it does
in the opening pages tempting the reader to explore
unknown statistics on the website. Did you know there
have only been four hat-tricks taken in World Cup
history and that Brett Lee was one of the bowlers
? If the answer is no then you have to read this book.
Each player profile is listed alphabetically and not
country by country as I would have expected. This
doesn't prove a problem however as the book includes
an index (by Country) listing all the players included
in the book and corresponding page.
If you read Lou Vincent's profile,
you will find that he is one of only seven players
to score a century on debut for New Zealand; his coming
much to the chagrin of Australia away in Perth in
the 2001/2 season. It also states that he has yet
to play against South Africa.
Following Zoysa's profile the book
lists a huge amount of statistical records for both
Test and One Day internationals including the most
Test appearances by a player (Steve Waugh on 168),
Brian Lara's 400 against England (highest score),
record wicket partnerships and most centuries to name
but a few of those on offer. Buy

Also included in this section is a
double paged spread (again in Test and ODI form) per
country listing records listed above and additionally
best bowling, most dismissals and most catches –
it really is comprehensive but should your favourite
player not be included in this publication or a young
gun enters the scene then just log on to the website
for up to the minute information!
The final section sees a glimpse of
the world Cup records just in time for the World Cup
in the West Indies next year. What more could you
ask for and quite simply the perfect Christmas present
for the avid fan or recent convert to the wonderful
world of International cricket.
Flintoff adorns the cover of the first Cricinfo guide to International cricket,a guide light enough
to include with your sandwiches and tea! Available
