Terry Alderman was a great Fast Medium, right hand swing bowler with superb control. Alderman toured England in 1981 and 1989 with great success. Back in the 74/75 season, he took 5 wickets for 65 in his first Sheffield Shield match for Western Australia, but it took him longer to break into the National side. Because of the competition for similar types of bowlers, it took him 3 more seasons to establish his place in the State side taking 28 in 77/78, 29 in 78/79 and 42 in 79/80 (the third best haul in first class cricket that season). In his first Test Match at Trent Bridge, he helped Australia to a narrow victory, taking 9 wickets in the match at a cost of 130. However Botham took over and England won what became known as Botham's Ashes. Alderman took 42 wickets in the six match series at an average of 21.26, the biggest haul by an Australian in England.

After a shoulder injury in the1982/3 Ashes series, he recovered to play a full season for Kent in 1984, taking 76 wickets, and in doing, proved his fitness and broke back into the National side. He took 6 for 128 against the West Indies (his best figures) in Perth the same year. In 1985 he was part of the rebel side that toured South Africa (he was originally picked for the tour of England). Returning to Kent for the '86 season, he bowled superbly, taking 98 wickets costing only 19.20 apiece. Kent missed out on his signature in 1988, Gloucestershire won it and soon saw the benefits, Alderman took 75 wickets in the season at an average of 22.81. In 1989, he narrowly missed out on beating his own record of 42 wickets by 1. He ended his cricketing career coaching Western Australia.
