Ronald Archer, the
younger of the two Archer brothers was an all-rounder
unlike his brother who specialised in opening the batting.
He was a tall, strong fast medium bowler who always
bowled good line and length and was at his most dangerous
with the new ball. He had a much longer Test career
than his brother (playing in 19 Test matches), touring
England twice in 1953 and 1956. He also played against
the West Indies, South Africa and Pakistan. An example
of his tight bowling came in the 1956 series when he
played at Headingley, bowling 50 overs, he conceded
only 68 runs, taking 3 wickets. His Cricket career was
cut short by injuries to his knee and back in 1959 at
the young age of only 25.
