Ross
Edwards played 20 Tests for Australia, playing against
England, West Indies and Pakistan. He was a middle
order right handed batsman and superb cover fielder.
Like his father (EK Edwards who played for Western
Australia) he was a natural wicket-keeper. After a
very successful Sheffield Shield season in 1971/2
where he scored 4 centuries, he toured England in
1972 as a batsman not wicket-keeper. Due to injury,
he was asked to open the batting in the Third Test
at Trent Bridge and scored 170 not out, playing many
shots off his back foot.
He
scored his second century against England a couple
of years later in 1974/75 when he hit 115 in the Perth
Test match. He narrowly missed out on his third at
Lord's when he was judged out L.B.W. one run short.
Edwards was another player to join Packer's circus
in 1977 and never played for his National side again.
