Frank
Iredale was a right hand batsman standing tall and
thin. He was a competent fielder who for someone of
his height was very quick around the field, he also
possessed a safe pair of hands. He scored 81 runs
on his debut at Sydney in 1894/5 against England,
he finished the series with an aggregate of 337 runs
at an average of 37.44.
He
had two tours to England, in 1896 and 1899 passing
1,000 runs on both visits. On his first tour, he had
a great run with the bat scoring 94, 114, 106, 171
and 108 (Test match at Old Trafford). He averaged
38.00 in the first tour (heading the averages for
the series) and beat that in his second with an average
of 43.20.
Playing
in 38 Sheffield Shield matches for New South Wales,
he scored 2, 466 runs at an average of 38.53. After
he finished playing cricket, he changed roles but
not sport by becoming the Secretary of the New South
Wales Cricket Association.
