Dav Whatmore was a right handed batsman
who played all his Test cricket for Australia in 1979
against Pakistan and India. Averaging only 22.54 as
a middle order player didn't help him make it into
the eighties and past the Packer era, however in only
seven matches he took 13 catches, six of them in one
match! He was a superb slip fielder.
Whatmore retired in 1988 to concentrate
on coaching. He has coached Sri Lanka twice, once
helping his native country (born in Colombo in 1954)
to life the world cup in 1995-6 and again after a
brief dalliance with Lancashire. He is now coaching
Bangladesh and has just guided his team to their first
ever series win against Zimbabwe, winning their first
Test match in four years.
