Former England and Yorkshire fast bowler Fred "Fiery" Trueman has died at the age of 75 after a battle with lung cancer.

Fiery FredTrueman was the first bowler to claim 300 Test wickets and finished with 307 from only 67 matches.

 

He made his Yorkshire debut in 1949 and retired 20 years later, having taken more than 2,000 wickets. Trueman was famed for his partnership for England with Lancashire's Brian Statham and was Yorkshire's spearhead during their dominance in the 1960s.

 

He also worked as an expert analyst on the BBC's Test Match Special for 26 years until 2000. His success on the field followed him off it with a career as an expert analyst on BBC Radio 4's Test match special for a mammoth 26 years until 2000.

 

He was born in Stainton, Yorkshire, Frederick Sewards Trueman and took seven wickets on debut against India at Headingley in June1952.

 

Trueman was affectionately known as Fiery Fred due to his fast paced action. he reached his 300 wicket milestone in 1964 against Australia. Neil Hawke edged the ball to Colin Cowdrey at slip at the Oval.

 

He played the majority of his career with Yorkshire and England and dabbled with Derbyshire for a one day career. His character and whit will be missed on and off the field.
