Test Comments by Hussain and Waugh :

Nasser Hussain talking after the match said of Adam Gilchrist as choice for man of the match

" I think Gilchrist deserved it for his innings" and his thoughts of the Australian team "They completely outplayed us, they are a very fine side and we played well below par" Asked what he thought he and the English camp could take out of the defeat Hussain said

" I thought Trecothick played well; Atherton played well in the first innings; Butcher batted well a in both innings and his bowling was out of this world" he said with a smile." "We were outplayed in all three departments to be honest" Hussain who is in danger of missing the second Test at Lord's with a broken little finger said of his injury

"It's too soon to tell at the moment, I'll have to take my regular visit to the hand specialist next week and see what happens" Steve Waugh taking a cheque for £21,000 for the team said

"It was an excellent team effort everyone contributed, I thought the batting was very good on a wicket that wasn't very easy to score runs"

"I didn't think our bowling was that hot in the first innings but we improved here today" And talking of the special spinner from Victoria,

"Shane Warne proved he's a great bowler and still has what it takes, he knows how to take wickets, many people have written him off." England now go off to re group and Australia on to Taunton now for the three-day game against Somerset ahead of the second test, confident and buoyed from today's victory.
