Top
cricket writer In dire straits
Respected
South African cricket writer Peter Robinson has been
diagnosed with lung cancer.
As
with all the staffers at the ThisDay newspaper, which
was shut down in October last year in the face of
mounting debt, Peter was left without a regular job.
His financial situation made it impossible for him
to continue with his medical aid and he terminated
it.
To
compound matters, Peter's wife, Jo, whom he had married
just months before ThisDay's closure, also worked
at the newspaper.
Peter
went on to secure contract work at the Daily Sun and
recently landed the post as sports editor of The Citizen,
but he was still trying to recover from the financial
knock suffered after ThisDay's closure and still wasn't
on a medical aid.
SuperSport
have opened the Peter Robinson Benefit Fund to try
and help him with medical expenses in what is going
to be a trying time ahead.
Contribution
can be made to the Peter Robinson Benefit Fund, which
is at Standard Bank's Northcliff branch (branch code
006305). The account number is 008224587.
Any
remaining funds after Peter's treatment will be donated
to the Cancer Association of SA or a related organisation.
