Arundel, 9th June - Australia's tour of England began with an eight-wicket final over Twenty20 victory against the PCA Masters. - Source BBC | Scorecard

They made a dramatic start as paceman Brett Lee had Nottinghamshire and New Zealand's Stephen Fleming caught at slip with the first ball of the match.

Kevin Pietersen lasted only five balls for six but Darren Maddy's unbeaten 70 ensured a reasonable total of 167-6.

Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden raced away for the Australians with a destructive opening stand of 131.

Hayden was particularly severe on veteran fast bowlers Chris Lewis and Devon Malcolm, who went for 55 from five overs between them.

The powerful left-hander recorded his half-century by sweeping his 32nd ball for six off Shaun Udal, then promptly repeated the stroke from the next delivery and sent the ball over the ropes again.

Gilchrist was slower to find his touch, but still notched fifty in 45 balls, and paced the chase to perfection in worsening light, remaining at the crease with skipper Ricky Ponting to reach the target with one ball of the match to spare.

Pietersen's innings ended when he attempted a wild swipe at the left-arm spin of Michael Clarke, and the ball ballooned straight up in the air to give wicketkeeper Gilchrist a simple catch.

Clarke then completed an unlikely hat-trick when Graeme Swann drifted out of his ground and was stumped down the leg-side.

County stalwart Mark Ealham delighted the enthusiastic crowd at an overcast, but typically picturesque Arundel Castle ground, pulling Aussie spearhead Glenn McGrath for a six and a four in the final over.

McGrath got his revenge by disturbing leg-stump with a fine yorker.
