Tour 2006/7 - Pietersen out of Commonwealth Series
Kevin Pietersen
will miss the rest of the Commonwealth Bank one-day
series in Australia after suffering a fractured rib
in their opening game against Australia in Melbourne
today. Advancing down the pitch to paceman Glenn
McGrath he was struck in the ribs, on the right side
of his body and will be out for an estimated three to
five weeks.
He continued his innings after receiving treatment from
physio Dean Conway but was out soon after for 82.
Michael Vaughan playing in his first full one day international
for England after returning from injury lamented "When
it rains it pours". he also confirmed that a replacement
would be discussed but Pietersen would be hard to replace
"But there are not many Kevin Pietersen's in the
world, let alone in England,".
Pietersen tried to counteract McGrath's line and length
in the final Test match in Sydney earlier this month
by coming down the wicket to the New South Welshman
but lost his wicket and this time although not accounting
for his wicket it has caused his injury.
Early indications suggest he will be fit in time for
the World Cup that kicks off in March.
Hoggard's delibarate wide
delivery, Gilchrist's 55th ball means that Viv Richard's
56 ball hundred remained the fastest ever Test Century
against England back in 1986. Gilchrist's century is
the fastest in the last 20 years of Test cricket and
the second fastest ever |
