Broad proves his worth for Notts

In today’s game, it isn’t too often that an England international makes an appearance in the County Championship. For someone like Stuart Broad – who is established in all forms of the game for his country – it is an extremely rare occurrence. When Broad is able to play for Nottinghamshire though, cricket betting pundits recognise that he will always be keen to make the most out of the occasion. They are the County that have helped him develop as a cricketer after all and been supportive to him during his England career. With this in mind, the 24-year-old will be more than happy with his performance in the recent County Championship victory over Warwickshire. Broad starred with the ball at Edgbaston, completing his first 10-wicket match haul to show his class in the middle of the English summer. It was the second innings in particular where Broad came to life. He took the first seven wickets to fall on his way to career best figures of 8-52. Before Broad’s match-winning spell, Nottinghamshire only held a first innings lead of 76. Warwickshire where blown away by the England man in their second innings though, dismissed for just 100 to leave [...]

Beautiful Cricket paintings by Jamaican artist Richard Blackford

Following yesterday’s early finish in the 1st Test between Pakistan and Australia it gave me a little time to have a look around the web to see what paintings (oil and print) were available to buy on the net. I was pleasantly surprised and amazed at the increase in paintings available today compared to earlier in the year. Maybe there’s a huge market for these paintings – move over Monet there’s a new guy in town! Of all the paintings I saw today one artist stood out, his name, Richard Blackford. Jamaican artist Richard H. Blackford is a self taught artist and now lives in Coral Springs in Florida (nice for some!). As his website states the concept for Images of the Game was derived from the title of his first exhibition of cricket paintings held at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica in May, 2005. The cricket paintings featured included pieces depicting cricketers from the era of the great George Headley (below) to Brian Lara, historic cricket grounds such as the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados; to Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. I hadn’t intended on spending so long on Blackford’s website but something kept my interest. From the characters in Coronation [...]

Not bad for a number two – Webber

Is F1 missing a beat ? The British Grand Prix last Sunday was, apart from an incident strewn first couple of corners, lacking of any real drama and a straight forward win for Red Bull. The big question before the race was not which team would win but which driver. Most pundits were clearly in the Sebastian Vettel camp, I wanted Mark Webber to win. Despite a wonderful looking Silverstone cicrcuit, I am missing the cutting edge of the pitstops this season. Refuelling stops are a thing of the past and have taken a little drama and tactics out of the race. Will the fuel hose work? How quick can we refuel and get them out and will we remember to take the hose off the car before our intrepid drivers drive down pit straight oblivious to the flames following him as he “speeds” away! There’s no drama anymore, or is there? Am I missing something? At the conclusion of the British Grand Prix and Mark Webber’s win the BBC broadcast those immortal words “Not bad for a number two driver”. Webber was clearly annoyed all week at what appeared to be team orders and a preference to Seb Vettel who [...]

Imran joins batsmen Hanif Mohammad and Javed Miandad as Pakistan’s representatives in the initial intake of 55 players into the Hall of Fame*, a joint venture between the ICC and the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA). After the presentation during lunch at the MCC Spirit of Cricket Test match between Pakistan and Australia, Imran said: “It is a great honour to be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame and to be recognized for my cricketing achievements for Pakistan. “I achieved many things during my cricketing career, including winning a World Cup in 1992, but to be named amongst the initial 55 inductees, alongside Hanif [...]

Pietersen ruled out, Swann rested for The NatWest Series

The England selectors today named a 13-man squad for the forthcoming NatWest Series against Bangladesh with Kevin Pietersen ruled out through injury and Graeme Swann to be rested. Kent off-spinner James Tredwell and Warwickshire batsman Jonathan Trott have been added to the squad that takes on Bangladesh at Trent Bridge on Thursday July 8 in the first of three ODIs. Pietersen suffered a left quadriceps strain during the 5th NatWest Series ODI against Australia at Lord’s on Saturday and will undergo further assessment this week. He will be required to undergo a short rehabilitation period which will rule him out of the NatWest Series against Bangladesh. Swann will play no part in the Bangladesh series but will be available to Nottinghamshire for LV= County Championship cricket ahead of the npower Test Series against Pakistan. Aside from the addition of Tredwell and Trott and the omission of Pietersen, Swann and Ryan Sidebottom, there are no further changes to the squad that beat Australia 3-2 in the recent five match NatWest Series. England National Selector, Geoff Miller, said:”There was a lot to like about the cricket we played against Australia and the team will be looking to build on this against Bangladesh.
Ever improving England seal series win

First, let me say the England cricket team are a national side to be proud of. They are playing superb stuff at the moment and are probably the best team in the world form wise, in all types of cricket. Their latest success is an ODI series victory over Australia with two games to play. England defeated Ricky Ponting’s men by one wicket at Old Trafford on Sunday to give them a 3-0 lead in the five match series. It is becoming the norm for England to beat Australia too. There was the Ashes win last summer, followed by victory in the World Twenty20 final and now this latest contest between the two fierce rivals. It isn’t all about Australia’s decline either. Yes, they have lost a lot of players over the last couple of years, but they are still very much a force to be reckoned with and a lot of credit must go to an improving England team. England’s Ashes cricket odds may still suggest they’re underdogs, but there’s a long way to go yet. There have been so many times that I have sat here and written about another inept ODI performance from England. Well, this is [...]

Kieswetter keeps England one-day spot

England have retained Craig Kieswetter in their one-day squad ahead of next week’s one-off match against Scotland and the NatWest Series with Australia. The explosive wicketkeeper-batsman was one of England’s stars in their World Twenty20 success last month and has been selected ahead of Matt Prior. Alastair Cook, who led England against Bangladesh in the winter, has been left out while Ian Bell has been recalled. Stuart Broad and Paul Collingwood also return after they were both rested. The duo missed England’s 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh but will return for their first taste of international action for their country this summer against Scotland in Edinburgh on 19 June, with the first of six one-day internationals against Australia following three days later at The Rose Bowl.
