Bradman's bowling in tests is probably best known for causing his withdrawal from the 1938 Oval Test. His most illustrious Test wicket was Hammond (85) in the second innings of the 3rd test at Adelaide in 1933 - a match England won by 338 runs. The other was that of Ivan Barrow (WI wktkeeper) lbw for 27 in the 1st test, also at Adelaide, in 1930. (Thanks Charles Levy)

Captaincy

Test record

Although his captaincy was questioned by some, and he undoubtedly was in charge of extremely good teams, his record as captain was exceptional

Captain Tenure Tests W L D T D.G.Bradman 1936-48 24 15 3 6 0

Of those with at least 10 tests as captain, draws ignored, ties counted as .5 of a win, Bradman lies third on the all time list:-

Name Ratio For When Tests W L W.W.Armstrong inf. AUS 1920-21 10 8 0 D.R.Jardine 9.0 ENG 1931-34 15 9 1 D.G.Bradman 5.0 AUS 1936-48 24 15 3 J.M.Brearley 4.5 ENG 1977-81 31 18 4

15 consecutive Test matches as captain during his career without being defeated, surpassed only by C.H.Lloyd (WI), R.Illingworth (Eng), S.M.Gavaskar (Ind), Kapil Dev (Ind) and equalled by J.M.Brearley (Eng).

Miscellaneous

  • During his career he hit 46 sixes, illustrating how rarely he lifted the ball.
  • 41 partnerships of 200 runs or more
  • 164 partnerships of 100 or more
  • Average runs added in Tests while Bradman was at the crease was 154, his share 56%
